Objectives:Students should:
Understand the concepts of workload and work ability and their relationship;
Identify the factors that influence the workload and the factors responsible by the Work ability;
Know the methods available to measure and assess the work ability/workload in terms of features, advantages and disadvantages;
Know the criteria to be taken into account when selecting the methods;
Select the appropriate tools to assess the workload;
Be able to evaluate/interpret the cost associated with the work activity and propose control strategies.
Contents:Distinguish the difference between work ability and workload:
Know the factors that influence the workload and the factors that are responsible by work ability level;
Understand the perspective of workload used in discipline and used in Ergonomics;
Understand the importance of work analysis to the correct interpretation of the workload;
Know the different methods used in workload assessment and understand the factors to take into account in its selections;
Classify the work in terms of intensity by the knowledge and determination of the operator exposure dose to certain requirements imposed by the tasks;
Determine and interpret the cost associated with the tasks realized (real or simulated) by analysis of the results found when applying various methods of assessing workload;
Define strategies for optimizing the work conditions, based on data acquired during the application of methods of assessing workload.
Evaluation:The theoretical contents are presented and discussed with support in PowerPoint presentations. The practical component comprises the accomplishment of worksheets (reviews of articles or specific problems resolution corresponding to real/simulated situations). There are two alternative models of evaluation: Continuous assessment, which implies a minimum obligatory presence (4/5 classes taught), the completion of the practical work and the realization of two written tests (with removal of matter). The final evaluation consists of a written exam (encompassing all matter) and in the realization of a practical work. The theoretical component has a weight of 70% on the final grade and the practice of 30%.
